Officer Feeding Program
Mounds currently provides 15 Wisconsin K-9 officers from various police departments with as much free Mounds brand Dog food as they require, we hope this number continues to grow. In addition to covering feeding costs, Mounds occasionally runs fundraisers to support officer training activities. In July of 2018, Mounds donated $3,100 and collected a donation of 573 Tennis Balls for K-9 officer Kimo of the Dane County Sheriffs office.
One of the groups we work closely with is a non-profit Capital K-9’s, which exists to support the expansion and maintenance of City of Madison Police Department K9 Unit and to educate the community about the value and effectiveness of using dogs in police work.
“As a non-profit organization formed for the sole purpose of supporting the Madison Police Department (MPD) K9 Unit, Capital K9s depends on the generosity and partnership of businesses, such as Mounds Pet Food Warehouse. In its four Madison area stores, Mounds sells merchandise on behalf of Capital K9s – specifically toy police dogs. A booth, provided by Mounds at its annual Dog Fest, gives Capital K9s the opportunity to sell merchandise, collect donations, and distribute information. At this event, dog owners are provided a “photo op” for their dog in a police squad car. Donations from this event help sustain MPD K9s. In addition, Mounds is a financial sponsor of Dog Paddle, the signature event conducted by Capital K9s each year. Our organization is grateful for the generous support of Mounds Pet Food Warehouse.” – Capital K-9’s
Wisconsin Vest-A-Dog Partnership
Each and every July, Mounds runs a fundraiser to raise money for Wisconsin Vest – A – Dog, an organization whose goal is “to provide a bulletproof and stab-proof vest for every police dog in Wisconsin”.
In July of 2017, Mounds raised over $22, 000 to Vest K-9 Officers with custom, dog-shaped, lightweight protective vests and provide K-9 handlers with First Aid Kits they can use to save their K9’s life in an emergency.
