Warm Fuzzy Salute

BRATS logoWhat is BRATS?
Certain areas in Wisconsin have too many animals needing new homes, while other areas have open kennel space. That’s where Badger Rescue Animal Transport Services, Inc., (BRATS) steps in. By getting Wisconsin’s shelters, rescue organizations and volunteers all communicating, we’re saving lives every day.

BRATS ties all of these groups together by sending out e-mails and match-making adoptable animals in Wisconsin shelters and rescue organizations that need a change of scenery for the best chance at adoption. Once a connection has been made and a group is able to help an animal, BRATS provides safe, reliable and insured transportation to where the animal needs to go.

Our first BRATS transport was in October 2008 and since then we have transported more than 4,300 animals. If not for BRATS, these animals would have faced euthanasia.

Our goal
No adoptable animal should be euthanized due to overcrowding, but it is too often the reality many Wisconsin shelters face. That’s when we step in to help. We transport adoptable animals throughout the state with the goal of ending shelter overcrowding.

We have no paid staff and depend on the generosity of people who want to help provide safe and happy lives for Wisconsin’s homeless animals.

We need your help
BRATS is on the roads every weekend and many days during the week. Our volunteers love to make a difference in the lives of needy animals, but it can get expensive. So far, in 2011 alone, BRATS volunteers have logged more than 1,200 hours and 55,000 miles transporting the neediest of Wisconsin’s pets.

Donations help keep us on the road and are tax deductible. We need cash donations; donation of gas cards; more volunteers; new or gently used collars, leashes or crates.

Interested in volunteering?
We are looking for dedicated volunteers who can drive long distances           (3-8 hours); have vehicles large enough to fit multiple animals (SUV or  mini-van); have animal handling skills through previous or current volunteer experience at a shelter or rescue.
