Warm Fuzzy Salute

Green County Humane Society is a no-kill shelter located in Monroe, WI. For 35 years, the shelter was located in a cramped, dilapidated building. Many area shelters who had recently built new facilities were kind enough to invite us into their buildings and share with us the things that worked, that they wished they had done differently, and to offer support. While we know the kindness of fellow animal shelters, we were surprised at how quickly the community came together to offer their support. Within eighteen months of unveiling our plans for a new shelter, we moved into our beautiful 13,000 square foot facility. The generosity of so many individuals, companies and organizations was simply amazing!

The new shelter brought immediate changes: Cats that had once huddled in the back of their cages were suddenly playful and affectionate. Previously unfriendly cats were racing around with new friends. The stress level of dogs went down; now, they rarely bark when they see a stranger. Dogs feel safe and  comfortable in their kennels and they now have several, much larger play yards facing a corn field to stretch their legs in. This is a far cry from the noisy highway that was the back drop for their play. The change in people is amazing, too. We feel the community has a more positive outlook toward the shelter and we’re attracting more volunteers.

Thank you does not seem like enough. The people who supported our new shelter really gave new life to our animals and the organization and we’re sincerely touched by the love our community has shown.
