Warm Fuzzy

Mounds would like to feature Nora Wichman as our Warm Fuzzy Salute for May 2015. Nora was only 10 years old in 2013 when she insisted on starting the Furry Friends 5K Charity Run to benefit the homeless animals of Jefferson County. She ignited a spark to help raise awareness of the need for a new shelter in Jefferson County. Nora’s parents are very grateful that the Humane Society of Jefferson County not only gives animals new beginnings, but they give humans new opportunities as well! They whole heartedly listened to Nora explain her idea of a 5K charity run.  The HSJC gave Nora full support as she helped plan and spread the news of the Furry Friends 5K! I can’t say many organizations would empower a child’s ideas and creativity like they did! We are so grateful for volunteer, Michelle Jenson and the Outreach Coordinator, Sara Lastusky. They are a huge part of the Furry Friends 5K team, dedicated to keeping this event fun and healthy for every participant. She secured sponsorships and participants. The inaugural event raised just under $24,000! Not bad for a young girl
and an inaugural event. Her persistence and energy helped change the lives of homeless animals now and in the future! In her free time Nora enjoys playing with her dogs, water skiing and downhill snow skiing. She also enjoys biking and hiking with her family.

The Second Annual Furry Friends 5K Race will take place at the Jefferson County Fair Park on Saturday, May 30th, 2015 at 9am.
